We had a cosy launch party on Friday evening with guest-of-honor, (our dear friend and arts-writer,) Zhang “Valerie” Fang. It was the first snow of the year in our borough. Consequently, the attendees who braved the weather and carved new foot paths in the crystalline streets were heartily welcomed into the assembly.
Valerie is visiting New York with her family in tow. She is married to the well-known Chinese photographer, Wang Qingsong, and brings with her their two children who have been practicing their english by assigning themselves the names “Elevator” and “Tomato.” (Creativity runs in the family.)
During their stay, the husband-and-wife duo will present a lecture on Wang Qingsong’s work, and the art scene of the Cao Changdi village in Beijing. Valerie writes and lectures in english on these topic regularly, and acts as a translator for her husband and his ideas, on occasion.
Please join us on Monday at the NYCAMS gallery. SftPwr will be introducing Valerie, and all will all be available for conversation, following the presentation.
