First Ever! Choreographer Profile: Elizabeth Dishman

February 6th, 2012

bk: Elizabeth,
First off – from where do you hail?

Elizabeth Dishman: I was born in Denver and took for granted my romance with the front range mountains until I moved to Atlanta for college.  Then to Ohio for grad school, back to Atlanta for a handful of years and on to Brooklyn in 2005, where west began to mean crazy tall buildings instead of purple mountain majesties.

Weekend Edition: Young Artist Profiles: Miss Jennifer Mills

January 22nd, 2012

bk: So, Jennifer,
From whence did you come? Is there a place that you currently associate with ‘home’?
JM: I was born in England which is fun to say, but mostly grew up in Minnesota. My current home is in Chicago.

bk: Is it safe to say that you are part comedian/performance artist and part performative/visual artist?
JM: Saying that is a little risky! I like to think that my work as a comedienne, and my work as a “fine artist” are all part of the same soup. My comedy scratches my art’s back and vice verse.

Young Artist Profiles: Sarah Gregory

January 17th, 2012

Last weekend I sat down with the singer/songwriter (and all-around breath-taking personality) Sarah Gregory! You may know her from her collaborative works with the Gregory Brothers, or perhaps you are privileged to have seen her LIVE with her “Stanleys“. Part internet-sensation, part soul-diva – I was interested in bringing more of her story to you!

Young Art Administrator Profiles: Min Hee Lee

October 24th, 2011

Bonniekate: What city do your currently live in?

Min Hee Lee: I am staying in Manhattan near the Times Square!

BK: What city are you from?

MHL: I am from Seoul, Korea.

BK: You are at Steinhardt – what is the focus of your study?

MHL: I am studying Visual Arts Administration now. I am interested in the current of an international art market and the works of contemporary artists.

BK: What interests you about the art world, and how do you want to interact with art as the focus of your profession?

MHL: As I studied graphic design at the design school(SVA) in New York, I had a lot of chance to meet young artists who are currently working in NY, and I helped making posters or brochures for them. From now on, I want to study more about managing or promoting their exhibitions, so I am trying to understand the flow of contemporary art in America by reading various materials in class and seeing exhibitions.
